Say hello to our January Mom Of The Month, Jen B.! She's a familiar face at our evening and weekend classes, and Run Club this season too. Her superpower is how she shows up for herself, her family, and for the mamas around her before, during, and after class. Her thoughtfulness shines in how she embraces motherhood in the chaos that is mama life. We're so proud of her.
Hometown: Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
Who is in your family? My family includes my partner, Alex, and my 2 year old Arthur, who we call Archie.
Why did you first come to FIT4MOM? Movement has always been an important part of my life, both for my physical and mental health. Post-partum, I was trying to figure out what physical activity would now look like for me. I distinctly remember googling “workouts with baby in Berkeley”, and I was thrilled to find a blog post that suggested FIT4MOM. I didn’t have much energy during pregnancy, which I think is partly because I essentially stopped working out. I wish I had come across FIT4MOM pre-baby! I’ve been attending FIT4MOM classes for two years, since Archie was 8 weeks old.
What is your favorite part of class or favorite class format? I love involving the kiddos in workouts, whether it’s with toe tickles or footwork drills around them. I think it’s important for Archie to see community, consistency, the importance of exercise for caring for one’s body, and how fun exercise can be! I also really love the run club. It keeps me accountable for running, and it has been exciting to see the improvement over the past year in the distances I’m able to run.
What are your favorite places to go and/or activities to do together as a family? Our new favorite weekend spot is the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito, but locally you can find us at Little Farm in Tilden, Berkeley or San Pablo Park, Berkeley.
What is your favorite self care activity? Movement is my favorite form of self-care. Aside from FIT4MOM, you'll find me on a bike or hike. I also enjoy traveling, cooking, and baking.
