Say hello to our May Mom Of The Month, Angie B.! She is so full of kindness and warmth you can't help but smile when she rolls up to class with her son, her biggest cheerleader, Leo. "Go, Mama! Go!" is his favorite thing to say in class. We're so proud of how she's shown up for herself, gotten stronger every day, and is so thoughtful about giving back to this mama community.
Hometown? Truckee, CA
Who is in your family? My son Leo (2 years old), husband Jon, and mother-in-law Melody.
Why did you first come to FIT4MOM? I have always worked out, and as ridiculous as this sounds, I was pretty shocked when I became a mom and hadn't considered that piece of the puzzle--how/when/where I would exercise! No one really tells you just how much your concept of time changes when becoming a parent (or at least it is difficult to conceptualize until you experience it first hand). Time to oneself is virtually nonexistent, and even getting a workout in can be a logistical feat. A friend told me about Fit4Mom and I was sold! Working full time, I personally am not interested in hitting a traditional evening class at the gym like I used to...I feel like I would just never get to see my kid. I love that we get to spend time together and I get a workout in.
What is your favorite part of class or favorite class format? My favorite class format is Stroller Barre! I absolutely cherish and look forward to the Fridays that I am able to go. I find that the bands and balls workout different muscles, providing a nice complement to the other classes. My favorite part of Fit4Mom in general is the community, and especially seeing my son look forward to going to "exercise class". I am grateful that Leo is spending his formative years seeing a bunch of strong moms move their bodies under all types of circumstances (and sometimes joining in himself). There is a lot of power in that for me!
What are your favorite places to go and/or activities to do together as a family? Riding our bikes; long, rambling neighborhood walks (especially in the rain!); reading; cooking together; singing; and any type of exploring, especially in nature.
A few words to share about yourself? I'm an amazing mom... and I'm also a 3rd grade teacher and occasional caregiver to my MIL who has Multiple Sclerosis. My superpowers are making a darn tasty meal out of whatever we have laying around the house and random music trivia. You might be surprised that I...fear driving in the snow and don't particularly love cold weather even though I grew up in Tahoe, and spent many years living in Denmark and Minnesota.
What is your favorite self care activity? Sleeping in, massages, pedicures, or quality time with my extended family, husband, and friends.
